Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Movement

Ramakrishna Maths & Missions around the World

The Ramakrishna Math and Mission has been on the forefront of spreading the universal spiritual wisdom of Vedanta as lived by Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Sharada Devi - the great 19th century saints of India.

Swami Vivekananda, the prime disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa took upon himself the task of translating the pious values of our Vedantic wisdom taught by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa into pragmatic means to uplift the masses of India as well as to reach out to all brothers and sisters across the world. He was thus at once the first patriot of Mother India as well as the Global Citizen.

The remedy for weakness is not brooding over weakness, but thinking of strength. Teach men of strength that is already within them.

Swami Vivekananda

Early days of Kadapa Centre

The Kadapa center was started in a small house donated by an Islamic Sufi gentleman Khan Bahadur Manju Miah, and was managed locally since 1910 by devotees – under the name Ramakrishna Samajam.

Gifted to Swami Sharvanandaji, the then President of Chennai Math, this place has been sanctified by the visit and stay of Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj – a Direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna.

Kadapa Centre through the decades

Swami Yatiswaranandaji had laid the foundation stone of the centre's then building construction. Others eminent monks have blessed the place by their visits. Due to various reasons the Ramakrishna Samajam became defunct.

In 1990s, the center was restarted as Ramakrishna Seva Samithi, with the blessings and support of Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj. It was affiliated and made a branch center of Ramakrishna Math in 2004.

Situated in the busy Chennur bus stand, it has been a haven of peace and tranquility for several devotees and visitors over the decades.

Transitioning to the New Campus

With the construction of the minimal facilities needed for the stay of the brother monks, the Math activities will shift to the new campus in the near future. However, all public functions as well as service oriented activities will continue to be conducted in the math building in the centre of the Kadapa City.  Read more >>>
